IBAC Update - November 2018

A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR GENERAL

Kurt Edwards

The month of October was filled with opportunities for IBAC to interact with the global business aviation community and high-level officials from regulators around the world.  We kicked off the month in Geneva at the Global Sustainable Aviation Summit where we shared with the worldwide aviation community (airlines, manufacturers, airports, and air navigation service providers) the Business Aviation Guide to Sustainable Alternative Jet Fuels.

In the middle of the month, IBAC participated in two critical events simultaneously: NBAA’s Business Aviation Conference and Exhibition (BACE) and the ICAO 13th Air Navigation Conference.  At BACE we held a wide range of events on CORSIA, IS-BAH, and IS-BAO.  It was a pleasure to see participating operators, handlers, and auditors at the show and to get your feedback on the programmes.  At the Air Navigation Conference in Montreal, IBAC secured the recognition of national governments of the need to include in the global Standards-making process an evaluation of the likelihood of effective adoption by States of new requirements.  This is meant to fill a critical gap in the process, which, in the past, has tended to result in disadvantageous treatment of business aviation due to lack of State preparedness.

Last, IBAC attended in the Asia-Pacific Directors General Meeting in Nadi, Fiji.  The annual event is an excellent opportunity to interact with DGs from the fastest-growing aviation region in the world.  Thank you to Caspar Baum and AsBAA for supporting our presence at the meeting.

In November, IBAC will hold a special meeting of its Governing Board in Mexico City, where we are looking forward to meeting counterparts in the Mexican business aviation community and learning about the sector’s growth and opportunities in Mexico.  In addition, we will participate in the Philippines Safety Days sponsored by AsBAA in Manila, where we will discuss further safety cooperation with the Civil Aviation Authority.

IS-BAH

BACE was very successful for the IS-BAH Programme, where we announced the maiden Stage 3 registration for American Aero FTW (photo below) as well as the entire TAC Air US network achieving Stage 2. A great achievement for both organisations and the IS-BAH programme. Thank you to all involved for the continuing support of ground handling safety.

Last chance for attending upcoming IS-BAH workshops for 2018 in Cologne (November) and Dubai (December). Book now as registrations are filling up fast.

IS-BAH will be supporting the upcoming EBAA 2018 Biz Av Safety Conference in Cologne, safetyconference2018.

IS-BAO

The 2018 Standard Brief for operators was released last week:
2018 IS-BAO Standard Training Guide

The 2018 Standards Board reaffirmed their commitment made for the Vision 2020 initiative. There will be no changes to the 2018 Standard that was voted on last year. The 2017 or 2018 Standard is available for use per the operator’s preference until 30 June 2019. Then the 2018 Standard will remain in use as the only standard for many years to come.

The first IS-BAO Operator's Continuous Improvement roundtable took place at NBAA-BACE in October and was a tremendous success. Operators have requested more and IBAC now has plans for similar roundtable events at the NBAA International Operator’s Conference in February 2019 and at EBAA EBACE in 2019.

CORSIA

IBAC participated at the Air Transport Action Group (ATAG) Summit. Director General, Kurt Edwards moderated a panel on Sustainable Aviation Jet Fuel (SAJF) and participated in the DG’s panel at the conclusion of the Summit.

The CORSIA presentation at NBAA-BACE was well attended and proved to be informative to many operators.

IBAC was one of several general aviation associations that participated in a press announcement at NBAA-BACE regarding a SAJF event scheduled for Van Nuys, California in January.  More to come on this!

The CORSIA presentation at NBAA-BACE was well attended and proved to be informative to many operators.

It is recommended that operators start considering the completion of their Emissions Monitoring Plan (EMP) for the start of the CORSIA Baseline tears 2019 & 2020. The deadline for completing the EMP and submitting to your Administering Authority is 28/02/2019. If you require any assistance towards completing this, please don’t hesitate to contact IBAC at corsia@ibac.org
