The International Business Aviation Council (IBAC) and its carbon offsetting partner Carbon Trade eXchange (CTX) have announced the availability of the Conklin & de Decker CO2 Calculator on their websites to help business aircraft operators quickly determine their carbon emissions for offsetting needs.
The CO2 Calculator from Conklin & de Decker, a JSSI company, is a convenient tool that includes hundreds of specific business aviation aircraft makes and models (both fixed- and rotor-wing) and determines that aircraft’s emissions in metric tonnes, as well as associated offsets to purchase (in USD) on a per hour, per trip, per seat, or per year basis. The calculation is based on the aircraft’s fuel burn, average trip length, and estimated yearly flight hours and allows for pre-populated editing.
Once emissions are tallied for a specific aircraft, operators ready to participate in the IBAC Carbon Credit Exchange (IBAC EX) program can voluntarily purchase offsets for those carbon emissions by enrolling with CTX eXchange. Unique from other programs, CTX offers certified carbon credits in real-time, allowing organizations to choose from hundreds of offset projects that align with their corporate values, sustainability strategy and assure that 95% of funds collected go towards active, approved projects and, therefore, meaningful emissions reductions.
“As more operators are implementing sustainability programs that could well include an element of offsetting, we felt it was important to provide easy access to this exceptional tool that makes it so easy to calculate emissions, and determine how many tonnes of CO2 to voluntarily offset,” stated IBAC Environment Director Bruce Parry. “We thank Conklin & de Decker for sharing its application with us, and we are excited to offer free and convenient access to it from the CTX and IBAC websites.”
IBAC Director General Kurt Edwards commented, “In addition to expanding use of sustainable aviation fuels, carbon offsetting is also an important measure available now to help us achieve carbon-neutral growth and provides a means to meet our industry goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Through our strategic partnership with CTX, and now with access to the Conklin & de Decker CO2 Calculator, we are eager to provide a seamless and transparent process for global business aircraft operators to implement carbon offsetting,” added Edwards.
CTX has extended the 20% discount on its initial membership through 31 March 2022 to the IBAC community (discount code IBAC21). Please visit the IBAC.org or CTXGlobal websites for more details and contact Bruce Parry at bparry@ibac.org with any questions.
