A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR GENERAL
Kurt Edwards
The month of January has a way of compelling us to concentrate on plans for the year that has just begun. Much of IBAC’s efforts this month focused internally on completing work on setting objectives for the year, continuing needed office improvements, and planning upcoming events.
On January 17th, IBAC joined a coalition of international business aviation organizations and local Los Angeles-area civic leaders for a full day of events marking a milestone in the adoption of sustainable alternative jet fuels by the business aviation industry at Van Nuys airport. The day included several demonstration flights using SAJF and IBAC’s environment director, Bruce Parry delivered a presentation about the SAJF Guide as part of a workshop to educate the media, industry leaders, and local government representatives about our industry’s commitment to emissions reduction and just how safe and easy the drop-in fuel is to use. To learn more or to watch videos from the event go to www.futureofsustainablefuel.com.
We also participated in the 30th Annual Schedulers and Dispatchers Conference in San Antonio. It was evident there that interest in the International Standard for Business Aircraft Handling (IS-BAH) continues to grow. The IS-BAH completed 2018 with 153 registered facilities around the world, each showing commitment to safety and professionalism. We are grateful for all the FBOs and handlers participating in IS-BAH and look forward to welcoming new participants this year.
IBAC also saw some changes to our staff in January. Jason Starke stepped down as our IS-BAO Operations Manager for a new opportunity in the business aviation industry, and we wish him well. Announced this week, Katherine Hilst has joined IBAC as Jason’s replacement. Please join us in welcoming her to IBAC in her new role with the IS-BAO Programme.
We lost a critical member of the team early in the month. Michael Hohm, Director of ICAO Liaison in our Montreal office, passed away after a bout with cancer [link to announcement]. We appreciated the kind messages and tributes received from members of the business aviation community around the world and members of the ICAO family in Montreal.
