IBAC UPDATE : SEPTEMBER 2024

Keeping Business Flying Around The World

mebaa news article image

A Word From the Director General

Kurt Edwards

As they say in France, early September is la rentrée, a kind-of fifth season during which we return from summer vacations to work and school.  ICAO blasted into la rentrée with the 14th Air Navigation Conference from the last week of August into September.  The ANConf will be immediately followed by the AAM Symposium and Non-CO2 Aviation Emissions Symposium.  IBAC will actively represent business aviation at each of these, and we’re grateful to have participation on our delegations from Member Associations and Industry Partners.

We are looking forward to the POC Meeting in Montreal 19-20 September.  While we will focus on reviewing and re-launching the Strategic Direction of IBAC, we will also arrange for the Member Association participants to meet with their respective representatives to the ICAO Council or Air Navigation Commissioners.

Overlaying all this, the IBAC team is preparing for NBAA BACE in October at which we will hold the IS-BAO Standards Board meeting, the Governing Board meeting, our traditional event to recognize IS-BAH and IS-BAO participants, and the second Industry Advisory Forum.  We look forward to seeing many of you over the next couple of months.

SUSTAINABILITY

Capt. Claude Hurley, Director, Environment & Flight Operations

- In September, on 16-18, a large IBAC delegation will again represent business aviation, this time at ICAO’s Symposium on Non-CO₂ Aviation Emissions. Claude Hurley will moderate a panel called “Setting the Scene by the Industry” with panelists joining him on stage from ACI, CANSO, IATA, & ICCAIA.

- IBAC and CTX renewed their partnership to provide a new transparent and efficient platform for business aviation companies to voluntarily purchase carbon credits to offset CO2 emissions without becoming a member of the exchange. While signing up for full CTX membership remains the preferred option for those anticipating a larger number of trades, the new B-to-B ‘retail’ platform provides a much quicker, easier path for smaller purchases, with CTX providing a pre-selected registry of high-quality offsets, starting at 100 tonnes. The new platform is hosted at www.offsetflights.com and more information can be found in the press release at IBAC-CTX Press Release.

ICAO

Capt. Claude Hurley

- As summer comes to a close, ICAO welcomes the world to its 14th Air Navigation Conference 26 August – 6 September.  IBAC is representing business aviation and coordinating with other industry associations in this key technical meeting ahead of next year’s ICAO triennial Assembly. The meeting is being held in hybrid mode, with over 800 delegates from States and Industry participating in-person, and the proceedings also livestreamed and later available virtually at ICAO TV.

- IBAC will again be out in force at ICAO from the 9th to the 12th of September, as ICAO hosts its first ever Advanced Air Mobility Symposium. Stéphane de Wolf (IBAC) will speak on a panel on “Holistic & Integrated Risk Management” while Claude Hurley (IBAC) will moderate a panel titled “Let’s Make Some Room for AAM Integration” with panelists from the European Commission, the FAA, ICCAIA, the Japanese Civil Aviation Bureau and from Vertical Association International. Note as well that Christopher J. Rocheleau (NBAA) will speak on the “The World of AAM Services & Economics” panel, while Peter Bunce (GAMA) is a speaker for the panel called “Technological Change – Transformation or Adaptation?”

Industry Partner Programme

Leo Knaapen, Head, Industry Partner Programme

The second Industry Advisory Forum (IAF) meeting will be conducted Thursday, 24 October 2024 in Las Vegas – following the conclusion of NBAA-BACE. This event will be by invitation with one place reserved for each Industry Partner and will include our Member Association representatives. A preliminary agenda for IAF/02 will be shared shortly, however, in the meantime note the time will be 15h00 – 17h30 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, West Hall, room #W221

Kindly join us in welcoming Stefan Weiler as the new IPP representative for UAS International Trip Support. Stefan is eager to contribute to our common cause for Business Aviation. He succeeds Ilahm Chehlaoui who has departed UAS to pursue other career interests.
